As everyone gets together over the Easter bank holiday, 16 weekends have been and gone, a little over 4 months since our beautiful girl was taken from us.
During that time and as I write this update, the driver of the car is still free to live his life and spend time with his family… something he took from us!
The only get together our family have had is to visit Lillie’s garden and sit with her in a cemetery. Debbie, Lillie’s mum is waiting for the gate to be open every morning and sits there until she is asked to leave at closing time around 7pm - a little later if she’s lucky.
For as long as we live we will never understand why a person that kills someone whilst driving is aloud to roam free… it just doesn’t make sense to us. We appreciate that gathering evidence can take time but over 4 months?
I’m not sure the pain of losing Lillie would be any easier however, knowing someone is being held accountable would mean her life counted… at this moment in time it feels as if she didn’t matter!
Lillie mattered alright… she was so precious to all of us, especially her mum and brother.
I have often heard families raising awareness on the TV and thought they must have just had a bad experience but now, I can see why people that are just normal and ordinary will do anything to get justice for their loved ones.
Our fight will never stop and we continue to endeavor to raise awareness. With over 20,000 signatures we are hopeful our campaign will be heard in the Houses of Parliament again. Unfortunately the minister decided it would be too much of a challenge to change the law when it was heard last time and he suggested expediting the process rather than suspend a driving license… he missed the point!
Hopefully our MP will let him know next time… it was a fantastic achievement that Siobhain Mcdonagh got it heard in the first place… we are very grateful for that!
I’ve been in touch with change.org regarding the email confirmation issue. It would see they only send one reminder and if your email isn’t confirmed they don’t keep your details. With such a high number of views, I’m confident a larger number of people have signed but not confirmed. If you know anyone that has supported our campaign, please ask them to check: did they confirm their email? Of course, they will not receive this update!
Thank you all for your support… we could not do this without you.
We hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend… making memories, they will become the most precious thing you’ll have one day.
Take care xx
