Do not build a bus route between Warren Farm Estate and Avon Road in Chelmsford, CM1
The Issue
The developers of the new Warren Farm Estate (to the west of Avon Road) plan to build a new road for buses, taxis and motorcycles between the new estate and the entrance to Avon Road Park (opposite the Trent Road triangle)
This will cut through the existing park, woodland and children’s play area, and include a new 2-way road bridge over Chignal Brook.
The developer is also proposing a four-way traffic light controlled junction at this location.
The roads around the Trent Road triangle will also be widened, which would include a 2-way link for cars on the south side, and a 2-way bus only route on the north side of the triangle, building over existing trees and green space.
The planned route will cause the following adverse effects on the area:
· Impact on local ecology, aqua ecology, habitats and protected species in the area
· Vehicular noise, pollution and light pollution to the adjacent dwellings, park and allotments due to the proximity and change in inclination of the access.
· Compromise the safety of pedestrians including children using the narrow pavement to the side of the proposed bus link, due to extremely limited space in the opening.
· Endanger users of the children’s play area, putting the health and safety of young children at risk.
· Loss of much-used green space by removal of the existing football pitches and park, which are the only existing amenities serving Chignal Estate.
· Increase in the road congestion and pollution on Trent Road, which is already overly obstructed for a residential area due to school traffic, and existing buses idling.
We firmly reject these proposals on all of the above grounds.
