UPDATE!! : Last year I discovered that my dad was being excluded from Creation Events. It wasn't an open exclusion. No one told him he was no longer invited to events. He just never was. This seemed crazy to me since he was a seminal and very popular character in the show. So I created a petition in the hopes that I could generate enough awareness of this problem to set it right. The petition gained thousands of signatures. I found out that, like me, thousands of people were not only missing my dad's presence at these events, but dumbfounded as to how characters who had only been on the show for one episode, or two, could be considered over him. 

Then I got a potential answer

It came to light that one of the owners of the show had been shown some of my dad's posts on X. The posts were without context, and so, should not have been judged; as nothing can be judged as either good or bad, without context. But he judged them and my dad as not in the spirit of the promotion. 

Had he seen the full context he would have seen that my dad was responding to abusive people and bullies with hard language. Is that wrong? Seems to me my dad was acting in the spirit of the Winchester's, who fought against bad guys no matter what the cost. That seems totally in line with the spirit of a promotion that hilights a heroic show like Supernatural. If it isn't. It should be. Fighting back against internet bullies and toxic elements of the fandom makes the internet and the fandom safer. If more cast members did it, there would probably be less of an inclination on the part of some fans to pick on others and we really could be a Family.

My dad has NEVER been unkind to someone who showed decency and civility. In fact, he welcomes those kinds of exchanges. By the same token he has no tolerance for meanness, or people who promote nihilistic or violence ideologies. 

What makes all of this even more disturbing and irrational is that this owner had met my dad before, and knew him to be a good worker, a team player, supportive of the cast, supportive of the promotion, and supportive the fans who attended the show. 

I took down my petition after my dad filled in for Jared in Norfolk. It was a last minute fill in and my dad moved his life around to accommodate the promotion with only a couple hours notice. He did it in the hopes of re establishing a relationship he never harmed. During that show he was asked to take down my petition. He asked me to do this and I reluctantly agreed, believing that creation had finally come to its senses. 

I think I was wrong. 

I know my dad is going to two shows, but he really should be on the whole tour. I think he adds great value to the show and thousands of people agree with me. 

So? Here we go again.   

Mark has never initiated confrontations on line with fans. However, Fans who misunderstand and mischaracterize his politics, philosophy of life, and beliefs often do. 

Mark (my dad) has a very strict sense of truth and justice. He demands the utmost of both in himself and is offended by their abuse in others.

Discussion, to outright dishonesty and bullying. He made a commitment to himself that he would never allow bullies and liars to get away with their grifts, but would fight them whenever possible. 

When people made him a target of abuse, always…. Repeat…. Always lying about what he represents by decontextualizing tweet threads and applying their own twisted interpretations to obviously benign, pro life and reason tweets, he would fight back. Often times the fights became vitriolic… who wouldn’t get pissed at some person who is trying to ruin your reputation by claiming you’re something you’re not? At those times my dad would be sarcastic, cutting, and rude, to people who deserved it. These very same people archived these responses divorced from context and have been using them to try to cancel my dad ever since. 

Every single accusation can be disproven. Every single lie has been exposed. Did my dad use harsh language with toxic people? Yes. And he doesn’t regret speaking harshly to nihilists who seemingly to break things. He thinks nihilism, dishonesty, and fear should be fought every step of the way.

I want people who stand for integrity, strength, and honesty to sign this petition for one of the most decent people I’ve ever known. Far from the unsafe monster this small but loud minority claim he is, it is they who are the dangerous ones, often abusing the fandom inside and out of cons. Yet the initiators of lies, and smears continue to attend cons, while the one fighting them cannot… where’s the justice?
