Create safer mobility in Carlsbad to prevent accidents, injuries and death

The Issue

Petition Calling for a Safer Carlsbad 

Mayor Matt Hall, Councilmembers Blackburn, Norby, Patel & Acosta: 

On August  7, 2022 Christine Hawk Embree was tragically taken from us in a bicycle accident while riding through her neighborhood in Carlsbad, Christine was accompanied by her beautiful 16 month old daughter, Delilah. Miraculously, Delilah was thrown clear of the accident, and with the help of a bicycle seat and helmet, came through unscathed.  

Christine was not as fortunate; after a true fight for her life, she succumbed to her injuries on August 8, 2022  

Christine’s husband Bob received the phone call every first responder fears. While on duty as a firefighter serving the citizens of Orange County, his beloved family had suffered a tragic accident at home.

Christine’s husband, Bob Embree, is petitioning the City of Carlsbad to make the following changes in hopes of preventing future injuries or death of others.  

    ⁃    Rezone Tamarack to residential from  El Camino Real to Adams Street and lower the speed limits to 25 mph 

    ⁃    Install Asphalt speed bumps from Skyline to Highland 

    ⁃    Install concrete roundabouts at Sunnyhill, Crescent Point, and Valley. 


We the undersigned support the requests made above and urge the Carlsbad City Council to pass a motion to make these changes, honor the life of Christine Hawk Embree and protect the residents and visitors of Carlsbad from future critical and deadly accidents.
