Create Peanut-Free Sections or Allergy Awareness Nights at PNC Park

Create Peanut-Free Sections or Allergy Awareness Nights at PNC Park
The Issue
My 6 year old son is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. He's a huge Pirates fan and loves going to the games. However, it's always a worrisome experience being surrounded by peanuts and shells. As a parent, we'd love for him and others who also have peanut allergies to feel comfortable and safe at PNC Park while still allowing peanut traditions in baseball.
Food allergies affect approximately 32 million Americans (FARE), with peanut allergy being one of the most common among children. Implementing peanut-free sections or having designated allergy awareness nights would ensure that fans with severe allergies can enjoy the game without fear of exposure. This initiative is crucial for the safety and inclusion of individuals with peanut allergies, a condition that affects millions of Americans. In 2017, 26 out of 30 Major League Teams offered peanut free days or peanut free seating sections.
Peanut allergies are one of the most common food allergies, and exposure to peanuts can trigger severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. Attending sports events, such as baseball games at PNC Park, should be an enjoyable experience for everyone, including those with allergies.
By establishing a peanut-free section or hosting peanut-free nights, PNC Park can demonstrate its commitment to promoting allergy awareness and ensuring the safety and well-being of all attendees. This initiative will allow individuals with peanut allergies and their families to enjoy the game without the fear of accidental exposure to peanuts.
We recognize that accommodating peanut allergies requires cooperation from all stakeholders, including the management of PNC Park, vendors, and fellow spectators. However, we believe that with proper planning and communication, implementing a peanut-free section or night is not only feasible but also essential for fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment at the stadium.
Therefore, we respectfully request the following:
- Designation of a peanut-free section within PNC Park where peanuts and peanut-related products are prohibited.
- Alternatively, hosting peanut-free nights on select game days throughout the baseball season.
- Clear communication to all attendees about the availability of peanut-free options and the importance of respecting the peanut-free section or night.
- Collaboration with food vendors to offer a variety of peanut-free concessions for individuals with allergies.
By signing this petition, we express our support for the establishment of a peanut-free section or night at PNC Park, recognizing the significance of allergy awareness and the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for all baseball fans.
Thank you for considering our request.
Sincerely,
Concerned Parents
