Create more immigration spots annually
The issue
I am writing this petition out of a deep personal concern for countless individuals who face the agonizing reality of being unable to live in their home countries due to political instability or inadequate economic opportunities.
Every year, millions of people are forced to flee from political turmoil or survive on wages that do not meet basic needs. For many, leaving their home countries is not a choice but a necessity for survival. The current quotas on immigration do not reflect the pressing need for these individuals to find safe havens where they can lead prosperous and fulfilling lives.
The numbers speak for themselves. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), there are over 100 million forcibly displaced people around the globe, with more than 30 million classified as refugees. Yet, the annual quotas set by many countries for absorbing immigrants are insufficient to meet this overwhelming demand. Increasing these quotas is imperative and can be done in a manner that not only provides necessary relief to immigrants but also benefits host countries by bringing in diverse skills and cultural perspectives.
We propose that immigration authorities worldwide work towards solutions that can double their current intake by creating additional slots annually. This can be achieved through a coordinated international effort, increasing investment in processing and resettlement infrastructure, and by fostering public awareness about the mutual benefits of immigration.
Numerous studies have shown that immigrants contribute significantly to the economies of their host countries. For instance, in countries like the United States and Canada, immigrants are known to launch businesses, bring innovation, and contribute to a more dynamic workforce.
