Create John's Law for transparency in care homes
The Issue
I am reaching out with this petition to bring forward John's Law, named after my father, who was badly mistreated in a residential private care home. Our family was kept in the dark about the care he was receiving, with access to his care notes denied and any attempts to seek further investigation initially blocked by institutional policies. Despite pursuing the care home for months during his stay and afterwards, the parent company has showed little accountability, leaving us in anguish over the injustice done to my father.
The lack of transparency and accountability in private care homes is a deeply troubling issue affecting countless families across the country. Society must ensure that our loved ones receive the highest standard of care, coupled with the transparency necessary to keep them safe and secure. John's Law aims to bridge this significant gap by mandating that care homes provide complete transparency to families in regards to care notes and medical opinions.
John's Law would enforce a policy where residential private care homes are legally required to:
- Allow families unrestricted access to daily care notes and records upon request.
- Facilitate second opinions on medical treatments without hindrance or bureaucratic obstructions.
- Ensure any investigations into care complaints are fully accessible to the family members involved.
- Guarantee that care providers are held accountable for their actions and not shielded by corporate policies.
