The Issue

Glen's story is not unique. Across the nation, families face the abyss of uncertainty when a loved one goes missing, especially in cases involving bodies of water. We demand a change; we need "Glen’s Law," a national framework to ensure immediate, professional, and effective responses to all missing persons cases. This law should include:

- **Accountability**: Enforcing responsibility when public services fail families in their time of need.
- **Consideration of Third-Party Involvement**: Mandating that all angles, including potential third-party involvement, are thoroughly explored in missing persons investigations.
- **Accountability from the public **:
Any person who witnesses another individual in clear and immediate danger must, within their ability and without unreasonable risk to themselves or others, take reasonable steps to assist or call emergency services.

- **Acting in a Responsible manner **:

Duty to report serious harm or a risk of death ad recklessly ignoring a life-threatening situation where a person had the capacity to help.

We cannot allow another family to endure the pain and suffering that lack of action and professionalism brings. This is a call to our legislators, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders to implement urgent systemic changes. Let us honour Glen Godfreys life by ensuring no other family feels this agony.

Please sign this petition to support the creation of “Glen’s Law” so we can hold public services accountable and provide timely investigations into missing persons cases, protecting families and ensuring justice is served.

On December 4th, 2024, my cousin Glen Godfrey disappeared. Despite the family finding out the two individuals, familiar to the police were last with Glen and the very unsettling accounts when he vanished it was not promptly acted upon. His mother reported him missing on December 22nd after not being able to locate him but tragically, the ensuing investigation fell short of what was expected. Police assured us that they had thoroughly searched the reservoir as they had tangible evidence from a credible source that, that is were they believed Glen is. The police claiming divers had examined the waters and found nothing, later to find out they had only searched 1% of the reservoir. We then privately funded with the help of a GoFundMe account and a family fun day our own accredited search and rescue team. They had to jump through many hoops for access but after a thorough search with water equipment and dogs they were 100% sure a body was decomposing in the reservoir. When the findings were passed to the police they dismissed this merely as silts of mud. Yet, on May 13th, 2025, Glen’s body surfaced, discovered by a Thames Water worker. The very water we drink from and shower in. The police had previously assured us that he couldn’t have been there, arguing that any body would have surfaced in 37 days. Clearly, the lack of specialist expertise and proper equipment in handling such cases led to this heart-wrenching wait and dangerous searches from family and members of the public.
