Create effective SGBV policies & Special Police Unit to protect Women victims in Kenya.

The Issue

Every other day, there is always a trending case of a woman who has been murdered or experienced violence in intimate partner relationships. We often view them with empathy and rarely follow up on what assistance the victims get and how to protect them further. Leaving them in the hands of the police who more often than not cause more danger or delay justice.

This delay often means that the victims don't follow up with their cases, nor do they get justice. The perpetrators go scot free and continue causing harm to their next victims. Leaving the actual victim in a traumatised and helpless state.

It is important to establish a set of policies to assist the victims, not only in the judicial process but also their individual healing. To enable effective access to justice and restoration of the victims. We need governing policies to ensure the victim gets assisted with healing the trauma caused, their mental health and a form of restoration through an SGBV Police Unit that specialises in only SGBV issues and especially for Women and Children. Policare exists but only a few people know about it and it's only currently operating in Nanyuki, a non- central area, inaccessible to many. Does it mean that all SGBV victims have to go to Nanyuki for assistance on the same?

Signing this petition will enable us to bring this campaign to my local MP who can effectively bring it up to parliament to come up with said SGBV policies and more policare police units at major police stations within the country.
