The Issue

During my time sectioned in a psychiatric ward, I endured the trauma of grooming and malpractice at the hands of a healthcare assistant. The individual responsible was never held accountable for their actions. This personal experience opened my eyes to the stark reality that exists for so many vulnerable individuals in care settings. Countless others like me have faced similar situations, unable to seek justice due to a lack of oversight and accountability.

Healthcare assistants and care workers play an essential role in our society, providing critical support to those who need it most. Yet, despite their significant responsibilities, there is no dedicated upholding body to regulate their practice, leaving many workers unsupervised and unchecked. This lack of oversight can foster environments where malpractice can occur unchecked, as in my own experience.

A regulatory body would ensure that all healthcare assistants and care workers adhere to a strict code of ethics and professional conduct. It would serve as a focal point for grievances and complaints, ensuring that any allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and addressed. Moreover, it could provide necessary education and training to those entering the field, promoting best practices and reducing the likelihood of future incidents of neglect or abuse.

Research shows that professions with upholding bodies often see increased professional standards and accountability. For example, nurses and doctors are held to rigorous standards by their regulatory boards, which not only enhances the quality of care but also fosters trust within the healthcare system. It is imperative that the same standards are applied to healthcare assistants and care workers.

By signing this petition, you are supporting a safer and more accountable future in healthcare settings. Let us work together to create a robust regulatory framework that protects both caregivers and those they care for, ensuring that no one has to experience what I went through again. Your signature can be a catalyst for change, bringing awareness and action to this critical issue. Please sign and share this petition to help make a difference.
