Petition update“Create an Independent System to Hold GP Staff Accountable”“Rude Reception Staff Are Hurting Patients — Change Is Needed”

I’m honestly feeling sick just thinking about trying to register with a new GP surgery. The thought of facing rude reception staff again makes my heart race, my stomach twist, and my anxiety skyrocket. It’s terrifying that something as basic as trying to access healthcare can make me feel this unwell. Reading reviews online, it’s clear this isn’t just one surgery — it’s a problem across many practices, and that’s deeply worrying.

I’ve noticed that if you tell receptionists you’re recording the calls, they suddenly become polite and helpful. That shows how inconsistent and unfair treatment can be. Patients shouldn’t have to feel scared, anxious, or physically sick just to be treated with basic decency.

This is exactly why I started this petition. GP staff, especially receptionists, are often the first people patients interact with, and their behavior can have a real impact on mental and physical well-being. There needs to be proper training, accountability, and support so patients are treated respectfully and compassionately every single time — without fear or stress.

The constant worry about contacting GP surgeries affects my day-to-day life. It drains my energy, makes it hard to focus, and even affects my sleep. Simple things like making a phone call or booking an appointment feel overwhelming and exhausting. No one should have to live with that level of stress just to get basic healthcare.

This petition is about making a real difference. Patients deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, not fear and anxiety. Highlighting these issues is a step toward change — toward a healthcare system where everyone can access the care they need without stress, worry, or harm.

Thank you again to everyone who is supporting this petition!
