I am a volunteer at an axolotl rescue, dedicated to educating people about these fascinating creatures and their proper care. However, our efforts are not just limited to pet axolotls. We also strive to raise awareness about the critically endangered status of the native axolotl in Mexico.

The Mexican axolotl is a unique species that plays a vital role in its ecosystem. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and pollution, their population has drastically declined over the years. According to research by D.F Zoology (2018), there has been an alarming 90% decrease in their population within the past decade.

Despite this dire situation, many people remain unaware of their existence or plight. This lack of awareness often leads to improper care for pet axolotls and contributes indirectly towards the decline of wild populations.

To combat this issue, we propose that Apple and Android create an Axolotl emoji. Emojis have become a universal language used by millions daily; they transcend barriers and can be powerful tools for raising awareness.

By creating an Axolotl emoji, we can bring attention not only towards these incredible creatures but also towards larger issues like habitat preservation and responsible pet ownership.
