We are signing this petition as the concerned parents, staff and community members of Cloverdale Traditional Elementary School. The intersection of Quadra and Cook is unsafe school crossing zone. Drivers to not slow down before turning. The right hand lane from Cook to Quadra is treated like an onramp/merge lane. Our Crossing Guard/School EA’s are narrowly missed by vehicles, as they step off the curb holding STOP signs and wearing traffic vests to usher our children through the crosswalk. There have been many instances of “near misses” of parents and children at this intersection. As per the “Safe Routes to School and School Travel Plan” program, School Travel Plan Cloverdale FINAL (saanich.ca), final report completed in 2018, we see no changes to the complaints that were raised by parents. Cloverdale Traditional School went from being a “school of choice” to a catchment school in 2020. Because of this change, there are more children in the catchment area who walk to and from school on a daily basis. For the safety of our children we are asking that you not delay in addressing the issues present at this intersection.
