The Issue

Every day, countless children pass through the intersection at the corner of Fenn and Cordova Bay Road on their way to school. This intersection is not only home to an elementary school but also a bustling area where the safety of pedestrians and drivers is paramount. As a concerned resident, I have witnessed firsthand the dangers posed by this intersection due to its insufficient width for vehicles to pass safely. The congestion, coupled with the presence of young children, makes it a high-risk zone that requires immediate attention.

The main issue is that the intersection's current design does not accommodate the volume of traffic it endures each day. Its narrow passage forces vehicles to swerve dangerously close to pedestrians, creating hazardous conditions. This problem becomes particularly alarming during school hours, as families and children navigate this vital route to reach the school safely.

The community cannot afford to wait for a tragedy before action is taken.

We propose several actionable solutions to improve the safety of this intersection:
1. Widen the road to allow for safer vehicle passage.
2. Implement clear and visible pedestrian crossings.
3. Install traffic calming measures such as speed bumps or reduced speed limits during school hours.

These changes will not only enhance the safety and accessibility of the intersection for all users but also promote a safer community environment for our children.

Let's rally together to urge the Saanich Council  and the Department of Transportation to address the safety concerns at Fenn and Cordova Bay Road. By taking these concrete steps, we can ensure the well-being of the children and all residents who traverse this intersection daily.

Please, join me in calling for immediate improvements to this intersection by signing and sharing this petition. Together, we can make a difference and safeguard our community from preventable accidents.
