Create a safer crossing at Beach Road and Sycamore Drive, Duncraig

Create a safer crossing at Beach Road and Sycamore Drive, Duncraig
The issue
The Safety Issue
Beach Road is a vital 70 km/h arterial road that runs through Duncraig, serving as a major thoroughfare for both vehicles and pedestrians. Every day, it is regularly crossed by:
- Students travelling to and from Davallia Primary School.
- High school students accessing bus stops along Beach Road.
- Families and pedestrians enjoying the recreational spaces of Carine Open Space.
- Sporting participants and spectators, particularly during evenings and weekends.
Despite this high level of pedestrian activity, there remains an alarming absence of a safe and controlled crossing point at the intersection of Beach Road and Sycamore Drive. This situation poses a significant risk to all pedestrians, especially our children, who are forced to navigate this busy and high-speed roadway without the protection of a designated crossing.
Our Request
We respectfully request that the Western Australian Government:
- Undertake an urgent traffic and pedestrian safety assessment of this section of Beach Road
- Investigate and install a suitable speed resolution to improve safety for those crossing currently a 70 km/h road
- Consider additional safety measures to support school access, bus stop safety and recreational use for this stretch of Beach Road
Why Action Is Needed
Students and families should be able to safely walk, cycle, and access public transport.
Currently, many families feel forced to drive to school due to safety concerns, increasing congestion and risk around the school.
Proactive action is needed to prevent further serious accidents and ensure that Beach Road continues to be accessible and traversable for everyone with confidence and peace of mind.
Please sign this petition to help us make a safer crossing at Beach Road and Sycamore Drive a reality for all Duncraig residents and visitors.
