The Issue

Residents of Groves Point Way, Woodcrest Place, Becky Place and Windfield Place currently have pedestrian access to Mount Tabor Park through a gate at the end of Becky Place. The path is currently obscured by numerous tripping hazards like tree roots and a tree stump and visibility is hindered by an overgrowth of Honeysuckle bush and other vegetation.

Changes are needed at this park access point to reduce the possibility of injury to pedestrians attempting to enter the park. Anyone with limited mobility could be seriously injured over the uneven and treacherous ground. If this was a hiking path, that type of uneven surface could be expected but is inappropriate for a park that is otherwise entirely wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair-bound residents cannot access the park through this gate at all. If this access point was clear of the tree roots, the tree stump, and overgrown vegetation and was a paved walkway, anyone could safely enter the park through this entrance.

As we approach summer, Mount Tabor Park will be hub of activity and will have increased foot traffic through the Becky Place gate. This is the perfect time to create a safe, paved entrance for everyone who will be visiting our park.
