Create a safe road crossing at Adelaide Street North and Victoria Street

Create a safe road crossing at Adelaide Street North and Victoria Street
The Issue
Vulnerable road users are currently subject to unnecessary risk when we need to cross Adelaide at Victoria.
Jaywalking is exceptionally dangerous given the high rate of vehicle speed across four lanes of traffic and walking to a safer crossing at Regent to the North or Cheapside to the South exposes pedestrians to further unnecessary risk given the lack of any physical barriers between vehicle traffic and the sidewalk on Adelaide.

We the undersigned, comprising business owners, parents who walk toddlers and babies to school and childcare on this route, and members of the community who desire safer access to transit, businesses, and services on both sides of Adelaide, request that the city create a safer way to cross the street here.
Specifically, we would like to see a pedestrian crossover and cross ride on the south side of Victoria at Adelaide.
This corridor of Adelaide features high volumes of vulnerable road user traffic, especially at peak times when people are pushing strollers to childcare, pedestrians are trying to get to the bus stops here, and store owners and shoppers are trying to conduct business. Vehicles leaving the road here and even collisions are not uncommon at this location and a preventable incident involving pedestrians feels less like a matter of “if” and more of a matter of “when.”
We appreciate the city’s recent efforts to improve safety infrastructure and implore the City of London to extend that effort to this section of road before it is too late.
