Create a safe crossing and drop-off area for Granville Academy

Create a safe crossing and drop-off area for Granville Academy
The Issue
Driving or walking to Granville Academy in Swadlincote should not be such a daunting task. Every day, parents, teachers, and most importantly, our children, face a perilous journey to get to school. The route is fraught with traffic dangers, made even more hazardous by the lack of a proper crossing and a safe drop-off zone.
We all want our kids to have a smooth and safe start to their day. However, the current situation leaves them exposed to potential accidents. Worse yet, instead of addressing these safety concerns, the council has opted to employ a warden whose primary task seems to be doling out fines. This does nothing to alleviate the underlying safety issues faced by the students of Granville Academy.
The safety of our children should be prioritized over revenue generation. While fines may discourage parking in inappropriate areas, they do not provide a solution for the escalating risk faced by those commuting to and from school. There’s a need for a permanent, structural solution—a safe crossing and designated drop-off area—that can guarantee the well-being of the Granville Academy community.
Statistics on school-related road accidents are a cause for alarm. According to the Department for Transport, a significant number of road accidents involving children happen during school run hours. This isn't just a statistic—it's a call to action. We cannot wait for an accident to occur before measures are taken.
We're calling on the local council to act now, to propose and implement an actionable plan for the construction of a safe crossing and a designated drop-off area at Granville Academy. This action is not just necessary but urgent.
Granville Academy's future, and more importantly, the future of our students depend on your commitment. Help us make the journey to school safe for everyone involved.
