For years, I have watched the Old Haunted Prison in Joliet stand as an emblem of our city's rich history. It was a site left unattended for a long time, resulting in the deterioration of this iconic structure.  13th Floor rented/ leased the space for a haunted attraction. We took it upon ourselves to breathe life back into the prison walls. We worked tirelessly to restore the land and structure to their former glory. Through our collective efforts, we created jobs and opportunities, adding value to the community we hold dear.

This all changed when the city sold the property. With minimal forewarning, we find ourselves jobless and overwhelmed with concern for what lies ahead for this storied building.

We believe that the Old Haunted Prison is more than just an old building; it's a treasure trove of stories, a testament to the history that defines Joliet.

We implore the Joliet Township and Tourism Board to develop a comprehensive plan for the building formerly known as The Old Haunted Prison. By doing so, we can ensure the long-term maintenance and appreciation of this historical site. A preservation plan could attract tourists, provide a venue for educational purposes, and enrich our community culturally and economically, offering sustainable jobs for residents.
