The Issue

Every day, countless individuals suffer silently at the hands of domestic abusers. Many hide their experiences while trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy. It's crucial to raise awareness, but we must also take actionable steps to protect those at risk. One such step is creating a National Domestic Violence Registry. Such a registry can be pivotal in preventing repeat offenses and safeguarding potential victims across the United States.

Currently, domestic violence victims often feel isolated, trapped by the overwhelming fear that their abuser will strike again. A nationwide registry that tracks individuals with specific felony convictions for domestic violence could be a vital resource. It would empower survivors, alert communities, and serve as a deterrent to potential offenders by publicly documenting these crimes. This measure would enhance public safety and serve the community's best interests by promoting transparency and accountability.

Repeating the same cycle of abuse cannot be an option anymore. By enforcing a public registry, we provide a safety net for those who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Just like with sex offender registries, potential victims deserve to know about the present dangers within their communities. Knowing that their abuser could be identified and held accountable may offer survivors a sense of security and validation.

The message of survival doesn't always come with visible scars or cries for help. Sometimes the strongest individuals are the ones who seem perfectly fine on the surface but are quietly battling immense struggles beneath. We owe it to our family members, friends, and neighbors to create a safer environment for everyone.

Please join me in calling for the establishment of a National Domestic Violence Registry. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to act swiftly in protecting the vulnerable and ensuring justice prevails. Your signature can be the voice for those who feel unheard. Together, let's make a change.
