It is imperative to reduce the speed limit of the Kings Beach residential neighborhood considered "The Grid." Our town is home to many pedestrians, children, bicycles, and animals, yet the speed limit is 25mph (and often drivers go faster than this). This high speed creates an unsafe environment for our loved ones and we should have the speed limit changed to 15mph in order to protect our community. 

Without swift action, our streets remain unsafe. This is especially evident in the summer, when cars are bypassing through The Grid to avoid main street traffic jams. Oftentimes, they are going way above the speed limit! Walking home from Music on the Beach can be terrifying! Also, it becomes extremely hazardous in the wintertime when already narrow streets become even slimmer due to snow. There have been car accidents, property damage, and pedestrian injury due to unsafe driving conditions. Not every street has sidewalks, thus a 25 mph speed limit is TOO HIGH for our community. 

Now is the time to act. After receiving signatures, I will petition the Placer County Board of Supervisors to change our back streets to 15mph. Also, I believe that "Radar Speed Signs" are necessary to give drivers immediate feedback about how fast they are traveling. We must ensure the safety of our residential streets and this is the first step in creating community change.
