The Issue

My name is Miranda Weeks and I am the great great granddaughter of George and Jennie Sodder. On Christmas Eve in 1945, in the midst of the holiday season's joy, tragedy struck the Sodder family with a devastating house fire in their home in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Five of the Sodder children - Maurice, Martha, Louis, Jennie, and Betty - disappeared that night, leaving behind a wake of unanswered questions and heartache.

George and Jennie fought for the rest of their lives to find out what really happened to their children that night. Despite their tireless efforts, countless inquiries, and relentless determination, they were never able to find definitive answers.

I am proposing that a flower garden with informative signage be created somewhere in Fayetteville not only in remembrance of the children that have never been found but also in honor of their parents and their relentless fight for justice. Jennie Sodder had her own flower garden in memory of her children and this garden would feature flowers originally planted by her. This garden would not only commemorate the lives and legacy of George and Jennie Sodder but also act as a reminder that their children and what happened to them will never be forgotten. The signage would tell the story of the Sodder family, preserving our history for future generations and reminding us all of the strength found in family.

I invite you to join me in this heartfelt endeavor. Your signature can help bring this project to life, honoring George, Jennie, and their children and ensuring their story endures for generations to come. Please sign this petition and support the creation of the Sodder Children Flower Garden and Memorial in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Together, we can nurture a legacy of remembrance and continue to seek the truth. Thank you for your support.

Please note that we are not asking for donations at this time and you do not need to chip in any money to help this petition reach its goal.
