Imagine living every day in fear, the sound of the doorknob turning sending chills down your spine, unsure of what is next. In California, countless individuals face this terror, trapped in a cycle they cannot escape from. It's time for us to change that by creating a Domestic Violence Registry.

Domestic violence affects millions across the nation, with 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experiencing some form of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In California, the numbers are equally alarming, with tens of thousands of cases being reported annually, yet countless more remain hidden due to fear and societal stigma.

A statewide domestic violence registry would serve as a critical tool in the effort to safeguard victims and hold perpetrators accountable. Similar to sex offender registries, this database would allow individuals to access information about past offenses, empowering them to make informed decisions about their relationships and personal safety.
