Create a Dog Park in Sea Cliff

Create a Dog Park in Sea Cliff
The Issue
I have two dogs (Pascal, the shy golden retriever and Louis, the NOT shy corgi) and every day, I see the struggles that many of us in the village face when it comes to providing a safe and joyful space for our beloved pets. Our village lacks a dedicated area where dogs can freely run, play, and socialize, which is essential for their physical and mental well-being. The nearest public dog park available to Sea Cliff residents is over 7 miles away at Christopher Morley Park (Garvie's Point is privately owned and very small). Just imagine a local place where dogs can frolic without barriers or leashes, growing healthier and happier!
Our community is filled with dog lovers; however, without a dog park, our options are limited. This can lead to dogs being walked less, having fewer opportunities to interact with other dogs, and even causing some disturbances in other public areas not intended for pets. These issues can be resolved with a designated dog park.
Statistics show that dog parks are not only beneficial for pets but also for their owners and nearby property owners. According to a study by the National Recreation and Park Association, communities with dog parks experience less noise complaints and see stronger community bonds form between residents. Such parks also provide a safe, controlled environment where dogs and people can interact without worry. Numerous independent studies also indicate that properties located within a quarter to a half mile of a new or improved park can experience a positive valuation increase of anywhere from 3% to 20%!
Our village has several potential locations that could be ideal for a dog park. While I originally suggested a specific location, that should be left to the committee (should the Village approve it) to determine.
Building a dog park is not just about convenience—it's about enhancing the quality of life for residents, strengthening community ties, and fostering a more pet-friendly environment. By signing this petition, you are requesting the village to develop a committee that can work towards finding cost-effective method to find and develop a location and advocate for a change that will benefit dogs, their owners, and our village as a whole. Join us in creating a happier, healthier community for everyone.
