The Issue

Living in Monroe, Louisiana, and being a part of the close-knit community around Forsythe Park has been a true blessing. However, one thing that all of us pet owners in the neighborhood feel is missing is a dedicated space where our beloved dogs can play and socialize freely. As a passionate dog owner, I, along with my neighbors, have long dreamed of having a dog park where our furry family members can enjoy the outdoors safely.

A dog park at Forsythe Park would not only provide a much-needed recreational space for pets but would also foster community interactions, strengthen neighborhood bonds, and promote healthy lifestyles for both pets and their owners. This type of initiative is not just about giving dogs a place to exercise—it’s about nurturing our community’s love for animals and enhancing the quality of life in Monroe.

Research from the American Pet Products Association (APPA) shows that over 67% of U.S. households own a pet. It’s estimated that there are 90 million dogs in the United States, and they need places where they can roam and play off-leash. With limited options currently available in Monroe, our community's dogs often have to settle for sidewalks or cramped backyards.

Building a local dog park is a feasible and community-friendly solution. There are successful examples in nearby cities such as Shreveport and Alexandria, where dog parks have thrived and become critical community hubs. Establishing one in Monroe can be done with modest funding, community planning, and public land allocation.

We urge the Monroe city planners and the Parks and Recreation Department to consider this opportunity seriously. With statistical data supporting the overwhelming number of pet owners in the area, and our community's unwavering support, a dog park could become a cherished asset of Forsythe Park.

Please join us in advocating for this cause that will bring joy to our community and provide a safe haven for our beloved pets. Sign this petition to make a dog park in Forsythe Park a reality.
