Create a Community Hub in Ringland for Hartridge RFC

Create a Community Hub in Ringland for Hartridge RFC

The Issue

Growing up on the Ringland Estate in Newport, Wales, I have witnessed the decline of our beloved community. As a former player and coach of Hartridge RFC, it deeply saddens me to see the lack of opportunities for young people and the increase in anti-social behavior and drug-related issues.

In the past, Ringland thrived with various community spaces like the Ringland Club, Spencer Boys Club, The Open Hearth Pub, and The Friendship Pub. Unfortunately, all these establishments have been torn down without any replacements. This has left our community lacking vital places for social interaction.

According to a recent study on Less Resilient Areas (LRAs), Ringland ranks 5th in Wales. One of the key findings from this study is that there are insufficient places for social interaction within our community. This lack of social spaces has contributed to feelings of isolation among residents.

I believe it is crucial to create a physical base in the heart of Ringland specifically dedicated to Hartridge RFC and focused on attracting young people off the estate. By utilizing sports as a tool to divert them away from anti-social behavior and drugs, we can provide them with positive outlets for their energy and help shape their future.

A community hub centered around Hartridge RFC would not only provide opportunities for physical activity but also foster teamwork, discipline, leadership skills, and personal development among our youth. It would serve as a safe space where they can engage with mentors who can guide them towards making better life choices.

By investing in this initiative, we can revitalize our community by addressing one of its most pressing needs – creating sufficient places for social interaction. Through sports activities at Hartridge RFC's new base in Ringland, we can bring people together regardless of age or background while promoting health and well-being.

I urge you all to support this petition so that we can create a community-focused, physical base in Ringland for Hartridge RFC. Together, let's provide our young people with the opportunities they deserve and help build a stronger, more resilient community.

Thank you for your support.
