Create a Board of Commissioners for Bartow County, Georgia

Create a Board of Commissioners for Bartow County, Georgia
The Issue
As a resident of Bartow County for all of my adult life, I've witnessed firsthand the impacts of a governance system that places significant control in the hands of a single individual—the current sole commissioner of Bartow County. Having only one person making major decisions for the county has proved problematic, not only in terms of transparency and accountability but also in terms of representing the diverse interests of our community.
The current compensation structure is grossly inflated compared to regular county commissioners, raising questions about the distribution of funds that could be better allocated to community services and development. Decisions are made without adequate public involvement, often in favor of corporate interests rather than the well-being of Bartow County residents. This system doesn't allow for a healthy, democratic process where all voices are heard and considered.
We are advocating for the establishment of a Board of Commissioners in Bartow County. This change would ensure that a diverse, bipartisan group represents our community, providing a balance of power and safeguarding our interests against individual biases and external influences. A board comprised of an odd number of commissioners will allow for fair and decisive governance, preventing stalemates and ensuring that decisions reflect the consensus of a group rather than a single individual's preference.
Introducing a Board of Commissioners would enhance public trust through increased transparency and collective decision-making. It would also create opportunities for public involvement and feedback, allowing residents to express their concerns, ideas, and expectations regarding the future of Bartow County.
This call for a structured Board of Commissioners isn't just about replacing one authority with another; it's about reinventing how we govern our community to be more inclusive, democratic, and responsive to the people it serves. We need a governance structure that reflects our values, supports our growth, and addresses the unique needs of Bartow County.
Join me in demanding a more democratic and representative governance model for Bartow County, Georgia. Sign this petition to show your support for a Board of Commissioners that understands and values the voices of its residents.
