Considering the long pending demand for restoration of all trains operated in the erstwhile Meter Gauge section, Train No.16189/16190 Tambaram - Sengottai ANTYODAYA Express via Thanjavur, Karaikudi was announced in the annual Timetable revision in November 2017 as part of MG Tambaram - Sengottai Passenger Restoration. With the delay in commencement of its services due to operational reasons, the same train figured in the next Time table revision announced in August 2018 also.

Since the announced fully unreserved Antyodaya express pass through passenger predominant sections covering Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Karaikudi etc during day time passengers are demanding for early introduction.
Introduction of this train in the announced route will be highly beneficial to the rail users, which provide unique connectivity between Sengottai and delta districts.
The train awaits approval from Railway Board for commencing its operations.
Kindly accord permission to start the services of Train No.16189/16190 Tambaram and Sengottai ANTYODAYA Express via Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Karaikudi as announced in Time Table.

Southern Railway should start the services of Train No.16189/16190 Tambaram and Sengottai ANTYODAYA Express via Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Karaikudi immediately without further delay.
