Help Reduce Ohio's Climate Change

Help Reduce Ohio's Climate Change
The Issue
Since the 1950's our climate on Earth has been rising and not stopping. Scientists call this climate change. Climate change is caused by too much carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide atoms begin the process the greenhouse effect, but too many of these atoms can make the greenhouse effect makes the Earth warmer than it should. Carbon dioxide doesn't go through the atmosphere like it is supposed to and then begins to build up in the atmosphere. When heat tries to go through the atmosphere, the carbon dioxide traps the heat and bounces it back towards the surface.
The effects of climate change can be deadly. In Ohio, more flash floods will appear because the water cycle will happen more and the seas, lakes, rivers, and anything water related will rise. In other parts of the U.S.A. there will be droughts where farmers cannot farm and there will then be a decrease in food. Respiratory and cardiovascular diseases will also increase because of food shortages and mental health illnesses. In Ohio, the amount of precipitation has already increased from 5% to 10%.
Ways to help:
- Turn lights off when you're not using them. This is a small, but very effective way to help climate change.
- Use energy efficient devices. In the beginning, installing the devices can be pricey at first, but in the long end it can save you a lot of money.
- Instead of driving separate somewhere, you can carpool with other people.
- You can recycle food and appliances that you don't use anymore, or are going to throw away.
