Equity in CPS's $2 Billion Distribution Plan

The Issue

Due to a recent government plan, the CPS district will receive $2 Billion to distribute throughout Chicago Public Schools. CPS must prioritize equity over equality in order to ensure an acceptable education for our most vulnerable students. Seventy-five percent of CPS students in Chicago's lowest performing schools fall under the national educational standard, meaning they are falling behind their peers and are greatly disadvantaged academically. CPS must prioritize aiding students in these most vulnerable, low-performing CPS schools to ensure every Chicago student can receive a satisfactory education before widening the educational gap throughout Chicago. Chicago can help by allocating greater portions of these funds to the schools most in need, which affect low-income, Black and Brown minority students on the South and West side of Chicago the hardest.
