BLACK DAY for the COMMON MAN of NAMMA CITY. For the next 100 Years, every single day, people will have to trudge an average of 800m to cross over between Metro Train and Railway Train at Cantonment. Those who forced this decision will never face any such problems. The average daily footfalls at Cantonment Rly Stn at present is 60000 and this is bound to grow. The Platforms will remain where they are ; the trains will continue to stop where they do now. Irrespective of any new Entrance being opened or not, irrespective of any new route or means to cross over, the average distance will remain 800m. Forever. For every elderly person, woman, child and the sick. With luggage. Every single day. We will lose our money and time (time is also money) every single day, in addition to facing the hardship of crossing over. Many will be forced to pay for autos, cabs, etc. to cross over. Many will avoid using the Metro for the Rly Stn and will use other vehicles adding to the congestion on the roads, and pollution. The moot question is : Who are the people responsible for heaping this permanent misery on Bengaluru ? Who will cry when the hundreds of children lose the Playground ? Who will do anything for other "homes" of poor people which will be demolished in the construction of this same line (R6) ? Who will answer ?? To save 1000 Crores integration can be permanently lost, we were told. The sharp curve to Shivajinagar Bus Stand from MG Rd did not undergo the same "save 1000 Crores" bogey. Who will answer for the loss of many thousands of crores on account of delay in implementation ? - when we will be asked to pay over 50000 Crores for a 25000 Crore project. (Remember the bill for Phase 1 was more than doubled). Also, the bogey of "shaft" was a fear factor thrown in to ensure the result some people wanted. The length of the tunnel in the original alignment was going to be about 1418m, which is lesser than 1500m (the standards followed by BMRCL clearly states that shaft may be considered only if the length of the tunnel is more than 1500m). Unfortunately, by the time this Phase will be ready, several of these decision makers - at least in BMRCL - will no longer be connected with BMRCL. So, all in all, a decision was taken against the interests of the COMMON MAN, reasons given kept changing from time to time, each reason given was comprehensively and publicly countered ; however, despite all your Support, despite it being a Democracy, it seems like a few "powerful" people can succeed in holding the entire city to ransom. Black Day, indeed !
