INCREASED COYOTE ATTACKS IN TORONTO, NORTH YORK AND MARKHAM

INCREASED COYOTE ATTACKS IN TORONTO, NORTH YORK AND MARKHAM
The Issue
Welcome to our petition calling for urgent action from the city of Thornhill to address the alarming and persistent coyote issue that has been posing a serious threat to our community's safety and well-being. As concerned residents who have experienced firsthand the tragic consequences of coyote encounters, we are committed to raising awareness and demanding effective measures from our city authorities to protect our beloved pets, children, and elderly citizens from harm.
Recent Disturbing Incidents
On August 1st, two elderly citizens were walking their little white fluffy dog on a leash when they were approached and their dog was attacked by two coyotes. The tragic sight of the coyotes devouring their helpless pet right before their eyes was horrifying, and the elderly owners were unable to escape quickly due to their age. This week, there have been repeated sightings of coyotes on Elgin St every day indicating an urgent need for action.
On a recent day, while in our backyard, we had a terrifying encounter with a coyote that had been hiding behind a plant pot, waiting to prey on our dogs. Our young brother, who was alone outside for half an hour, was in danger without knowing it. When he heard the dogs barking, he approached a shadow where the coyote was laying waiting to prey. We ran out instantly to bring our brother and dogs to safety, but the coyote remained undeterred and lingered in our backyard for a shocking 30 minutes before finally leaving upon hearing the bark of another dog in the neighbourhood.
Our Story
Three years ago, our family suffered a devastating loss when our senior dog, a cherished member of our family for nearly 13 years, fell victim to a vicious coyote attack in our own backyard. This beloved childhood dog, gifted to us in first grade, held a special place in our hearts and memories. The coyote targeted our younger dog, grabbing her, and in a brave act of loyalty, our older dog stepped in to defend her companion, ultimately sacrificing her own life. The grief and sorrow from this traumatic event continue to haunt us, and we remain deeply affected by the loss of our beloved companions.
City of Thornhill's Response
In our attempt to seek assistance and a resolution to the escalating coyote issue, we reached out to the city of Thornhill, hoping they would take immediate action. Unfortunately, our pleas were met with indifference, and no substantial measures were taken to address the growing concern. This lack of responsiveness from our city authorities has left us feeling unprotected and abandoned in our own neighbourhood.
Today, we unite as a concerned community to demand immediate action from the city of Thornhill. We urge our city authorities to recognize the gravity of the ongoing coyote issue and prioritize the safety of our residents and their beloved pets. We call upon them to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to manage the coyote population and mitigate the risks they pose to our community.
By signing this petition, we seek to make our collective voice heard and bring about the change we urgently need. Together, let us urge the city of Thornhill to show empathy, responsibility, and a commitment to the safety and well-being of its residents. Help us create a safer Thornhill, where our pets and loved ones can thrive without fear of falling victim to coyote encounters. Sign and share this petition to join us in making a significant and positive change for our community.
