Help protect Covington's greenspace at Orchard Park
The Issue
Orchard Park is one of Covington's rarest treasures; a one-block greenspace located on Orchard Street, a mere three-minute walk from the local Carlisle Elementary School and more recently a home to two dozen chickens whose eggs are sold at the Covington Farmer's Market by a homegrown community organization named 'Grow the Cov'.
This gem of this park is, according to the 2014 Cincinnati Urban Land Institute Technical Assistance Panel, "a greenspace that would serve as a focal point within the neighborhood . . . and quite passionately by some of the panelists as a possible “game changer” option for the area.
ULI Panelists noted that this space presents the best opportunity in the neighborhood for new greenspace based on its location and relative lack of existing development. Retention and enhancement of the site as a greenspace offers the chance to create an amenity for the neighborhood that in turn makes the neighborhood more desirable."
This intent of this petition is to demonstrate the unilateral desire of the residents of Covington and surrounding areas, to preserve this space as greenspace park, and help potential developers of this area see the advantage in maintaining it as such.
