Cover the Genocide in Iran and the Voices of Iranians in Canada

The Issue

Canadian news media must urgently and responsibly cover what is happening in Iran.

Approximately one month ago, a mass killing occurred in Iran in which nearly 50,000 people were killed, including thousands of children. This was not an isolated incident. It is part of an ongoing pattern of systematic violence, repression, executions, forced disappearances, and the silencing of civilians, amounting to crimes against humanity.

Despite the scale of this tragedy, coverage by major Canadian news organizations—including Global News, CBC News, CTV News, CityNews, The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and National Post—has been limited, inconsistent, or absent.

At the same time, Iranians across Canada are organizing protests, vigils, petitions, and advocacy efforts in cities nationwide. Iranian-Canadians are using their democratic rights to speak out for those who cannot. This movement represents one of the most significant diaspora-led human rights efforts in Canada today, yet it remains largely underreported.

Canada has publicly committed to defending human rights and freedom of expression. Canadian journalism plays a critical role in informing the public, documenting atrocities, and holding those responsible to account. When mass civilian killings—especially those involving children—receive minimal coverage, victims are erased and public awareness is weakened.

We call on Canadian news organizations, including those named above, to:

Provide ongoing and prominent coverage of the mass killings and human rights violations in Iran
Accurately report the scale of loss, including the killing of children
Cover Iranian-Canadian protests and civic action as a legitimate and significant movement within Canada
Center Iranian voices, including families of victims, women, youth, and human rights advocates
Treat these events as potential crimes under international law, not merely political developments

This petition is not a request for advocacy.

It is a call for ethical, responsible journalism.

When tens of thousands are killed and the world looks away, silence becomes dangerous.

Sign this petition to demand coverage, accountability, and truth.
