Hello all the Section V Hockey families. The frustration of the uncertainty regarding this years high school season must be brought to the attention of the decision makers. We have waited patiently for logical decisions to be made surrounding COVID-19 and our students. The longer we sit and wait for something to be done, the less of a chance our children will have to be allowed to participate in the sport they love so much.  For many seniors, this will be the last time they skate in an organized fashion. The decisions made by our leaders do not seem to have any validity. Hockey is a close contact sport, however the players are completely protected head to toe in equipment. The contact they have is very short( less than 5 seconds in most cases).  According to the CDC children 19 and younger are at very low risk as well. We are asking NY State to allow Section V hockey to take place. Since most teams are all in Monroe County, there is no requirement to travel. If youth hockey teams are able to practice, travel to PA, etc. to play then there is no reason why Section V cannot play.  I am confident that a safe and successful plan can be put in place to allow these kids to play .
