Councillor Moise: Lift the Post-Pandemic Ban on Indoor Buskers at St. Lawrence Market
The Issue
For years, local buskers have delighted visitors and locals alike, making our music an essential part of the historic St. Lawrence Market experience. While musicians are still allowed to play outside during the summer, market management has quietly turned a temporary COVID-19 restriction into a permanent ban on indoor busking during the colder, rainy months.
Despite tireless emails and attempts at dialogue, city management continues to give us the run-around and ignore our messages. This leaves our beautiful community hub completely silent during the colder months, stripping the market of its world-famous charm and hurting local musicians who rely on these indoor spaces. The rest of the world has moved past pandemic restrictions, and it is time for the City of Toronto to do the same.
We are not asking for a chaotic free-for-all. We are asking for a thoughtful, organized framework—such as designated acoustic time slots and specific performance areas—to safely bring live music back inside.
Who we are targeting:
We are calling directly on Ward 13 Councillor Chris Moise and the City of Toronto’s Corporate Real Estate Management Division to step in, stop ignoring the community, and formally review this outdated policy.
Please sign this petition to help us break the silence, hold Councillor Moise accountable, and bring the soulful heart of music back inside the St. Lawrence Market year-round!
