Dear Supporters,

This amazing sight of 1000s of Pink Footed Geese on fields off Gilroy Road, West Kirby could be lost forever.
Miller Homes want to build 550 houses on these fields stretching from Gilroy Nature Park, either side of Saughall Massie Road, behind Hilbre High School across to China Plate Farm (north of Fulton Ave, Farndon Drive and Grange Farm Crescent).
Miller Homes dismisses the environmental importance of these fields and that they are "functionally linked" to the Dee Estuary Special protection Area. These fields are extremely important for over-wintering birds, despite the landowner draining Gilroy Scrape which was home to 10,000 Black-Tailed Godwits (5% of the UK's population).
Miller Homes argue that concreting over these fields will actually provide a "bio-diversity net gain". They must think we are stupid! But they have employed a Senior Barrister, Rupert Warren KC, hoping to persuade the Local Plan Inspector that these fields should be released from Green Belt and developed for houses.
This video of the pink footed geese was taken in December 2022 - they are classified as Amber in the UK under the Birds of Conservation Concern 4 : The Red List for Birds (2021). They are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
Please don't let Miller Homes and the Wirral Development Consortium (of 13 Local House Builders) get away with this environmental gas lighting nonsense! They dont care about these geese or the other flora and fauna on these fields, they dont care about the environment (despite what their glossy reports may say) They just care about money, they have lots of it and they want more.
Please donate to the Wirral Green Space Alliance's Legal Fighting Fund so that we can have our own legal team to challenge these developers at the Local Plan Inspection.
Please donate as little or as much as you can afford. If everyone who has signed this petition gave just £1 we would have £24,000. Legal fees are incredibly expensive, The more we can raise, the more days we will be able to have legal representation at the Local Plan Public Examination.
