Stop the Implementation of a "Compulsory Dogs on Leads" Law and "Total Ban on Dogs" in Certain Popular Dog Walking, Open Spaces in Bedfordshire!

The Issue

If you do not want to be restricted to not only where you can take your dog off the lead but in Bedfodshire where you can walk it, please show your support by signing this petition. ....Read more... as to where these proposed bans are to be enforced ( including Dunstable Downs) and what Fines will be incurred ! ...... This effects NON Dog Owners too! ... Will Your tax payers money go towards Dog Wardens to Police this??...and if the councils corncern is over dog fouling what firstly are they doing about actually enforcing fines  that already exist on irresponsable owners rather than punshing the majoprity who are responsible owners?

If your not from the Bedfordshire Central Council Area please also Support as this will likely be rolled out across other regions!

Dog owners in Bedfordshire could be fined £80 for failing to keep their pets on leads in certain areas, the council said.

  • Conservative-led Central Bedfordshire Council is also considering banning dogs from some places.
  • This could be in Place by October 2014!
  • Under the proposals, dogs will have to be on a 6.5ft (2m) lead in designated open areas including Dunstable Downs, Sharpenhoe Clappers, Totternhoe Knolls picnic site, Whipsnade Tree Cathedral and Rushmere Country Park.
  • It is likely the implemetation of such Laws and Fines will required the enforcement/ presence of a "Dog Warden" is this really sensible use of taxpayers money?
  • It is not fair or natural for dogs to be kept on leads in big open spaces, and if the owner is responsible and dogs adequetly trained there should be no issues!

Please Show your Support if you DO NOT Want These Restrictions Placed on You on Your Dog, or if You Wish to Support Dog Owners Throughout the Region, In Hope the Bedfodshire Central Council Will Rule Out

Responded
Unfortunately there has been significant miss information on this subject. The requirement to have dogs on leads will only apply to a few very specific instances as outlined in the consultation below.:- “The order will apply to land across Central Bedfordshire which is used as a cemetery, burial ground, garden of remembrance, or marked sports pitch. It will also include all designated carriageways (A and B roads) and their adjoining footpaths and verges. Finally, the order will apply to the picnic sites and car parks only at Rushmere Country Park, Dunstable Downs, Houghton Hall Park, Sharpenhoe Clappers, Sundon Hills, Totternhoe Knolls picnic site, and Whipsnade Tree Cathedral - people will still be free to let their dogs off of leads on the majority of the land as they do now” At the moment this is a consultation only and you can make your views known at http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/surveys/dogcontrol/public.htm James Jamieson
