Why this petition matters

Started by Alex O'Hagan

Palm oil is used in over 50% of all products sold in supermarkets, but there is currently no law that requires transparent labelling of whether or not the palm oil used in the product is sustainable. Palm oil is responsible for deforestation and the death of over 50,000 Orangutan’s in Borneo. However, it’s not all bad news, there are sustainable ways of harvesting palm oil. Many companies are now funding sustainable palm oil, and are working towards putting a stop towards deforestation, and the massacre of many endangered species such as the Orangutan and Sumatran Rhinoceros. But how do we know which companies use sustainable palm oil, and which don’t? The short answer is we don’t. Please help me make it a legal requirement for companies to clearly label whether or not they are using sustainable palm oil. Together we can bring multiple species back from the brink of extinction and help to save a little bit more of this incredible planet, whilst still providing jobs for local economies. All it takes is a signature to be a part of history, and to help preserve our wonderful world and those who share it with us. Wouldn’t it be nice to shop safe in the knowledge you have helped to change the world?
