Mikolaj Grzegorczyk started this petition to Council of Royal Borough of Kingston

Across my local area (Kingston) there aren't any walls in which young, aspiring artists like myself can express their creativity on... That is something we need your help to change!

I, and many others, would like to see some light and colour in our mundane corporate-filled city. To give our buildings a much more vibrant and pleasant atmosphere, not just monotone brick walls everywhere. In cities such as Paris or Amsterdam, graffiti walls lighten up the mood, creating a much more exciting atmosphere to be and live in. A legal graffiti wall won't only lighten up the city, but it will allow different types of people from different backgrounds to come together and paint together creating a further sense of community.

As a student, I don't have much spare time and can't spend it travelling to graffiti walls across the city of London, wasting hours just to arrive and finding it to be too late to paint and share a little piece of creativity and colour with the community and practise my passion.

I know I`m not the only person that faces these problems and believe it is very important to create a space for us, the people, to be creative. There are currently no graffiti walls in Kingston and hardly any in South London, meaning graffiti painters from this huge geographical area have to travel far to find a legal graffiti wall, often stopping them from doing it at all and instead spending that time at home or for some, possibly even spending time doing illicit activities, something that must be changed.

Creating a graffiti wall is only one of the many things the council can do. They could also legalise an already built wall, a bridge on the side of a building; with another option being to take free spaces like a skate park, green parks or sports parks and making them legal to paint. Ultimately This will allow for the community to come closer, for new friendships to be built based on a common interest and allow aspiring young artists and people with an interest in the arts like me to be able to express our artistic creativity in a manner we have so far been unable to do.

To conclude, it is clear that creating a graffiti wall/area would allow people of new and older generations to share an interest and bond through creativity, not only on paper but out in society, in a community. It will allow people previously unable, to truly follow their passion and it will liven up some of the dullest parts in Kingston with beautiful murals and graffiti, like renowned cities all over the world. Please support me in making the above a reality for so many of us here in Kingston
