Reparations for 400 years of systemic oppression.

The Issue

Why Reparations.

For every dollar a typical white household holds, a black one has 10 cents! This information is based on data from the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Consumer Finance.

Benefiting from 400 years of slavery, systemic oppression, and racism, white Americans have received trillions of dollars, created generational wealth, and monopolized the business industry as well as the government. During this period of white advancement, black communities were flooded with guns and drugs, funding for predominantly black institutions have been kept at an all time low, and the arresting, imprisonment, and killing of black citizens are at an all time high. These injustices forced upon black Americans are only a fraction of examples on why the discussion about reparations need to be reignited.

Systemic oppression exists at all levels of institutions and structures (education, health, government, transportation, economy, etc) that are interconnected and reinforcing over time.

Reparations will give Black Americans opportunities to invest in those institutions that have been systematically oppressing and deterring black success.

The Action.

BET founder Robert Johnson is calling for $14 Trillion dollars in reparations over 10-20 years to even the playing field for Black Americans, while other groups and organizations are calling for a tax free proposition for Black Americans. Both are beginnings to heal the injustices brought upon black people in America. It's time to reignite the discussion.

Previous Reparation Practices.

Germany's Post War Reparations Program has been paying $89 billion in compensation mostly to Jewish victims of Nazi crimes over six decades!

The U.S. government disbursed more than $1.6 billion (equivalent to $3,460,000,000 in 2019) in reparations to 82,219 Japanese Americans who were relocated and forced into concentration camps during WW2.
