Correct the final score of the Michigan/Western Michigan football game
The Issue
On September 5, 2026, the Western Michigan Broncos played a football game against the #16 Michigan Wolverines. Michigan, down 7-12 with just seconds left and no timeouts, burned up the clock on a failed Hail Mary attempt. The clock hit 0:00, and Western Michigan had won the game.
The Big Ten-affiliated referee crew then announced that they were reviewing the final play. After brief deliberation, they overturned the final score and put 1 second back on the clock. Michigan then scored and “won” the game.
This petition calls upon the NCAA to correct the score of this game and officially recognize the win that Western Michigan earned. The referees behind this theft should also be held responsible for using their powers to overturn a final score that damaged the conference they work for.
