BEWARE THE ANGER OF THE QUIET PEOPLE
A TIME FOR REFLECTION
The battle for sanity in the development arena rages on as those at Cornwall Council continue to doggedly persist against increasingly robust opposition with their discredited unsustainable growth at any cost agenda.
At a recent area planning meeting the Chair Councillor Mark Kaczmarek (St Day & Gwennap) was reportedly visibly taken aback by the fierce resistance to a proposed development in Mabe that would involve the closure of Trenoweth Quarry in order to make way for it.
Many of you have probably never heard of Trenoweth Quarry where T. Marsh and Sons operate as traditional stonemasons, recently the statue of St Piran was carved there before being shipped to Brittany’s Valley of the Saints.
The developers and planners have reportedly classified the quarry and its staff as 'unproductive', making no allowance whatsoever for the intrinsic value of the traditional skills employed for whch there is so obviously still a demand, as the business thrives in its own albeit small way, when compared with other quarries in the area, producing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aggregates annualy.
It was good to hear that Councillor Kaczmarek who was the original misguided promoter of the Langarth project, back in 2012, has finally encountered first hand the anger of local residents who do not wish to have an unwanted development imposed on them by bullying planners and developers.
We await the outcome of the proposed public meeting to hear opinions before a final decision is made with great interest.
We salute the commitment of the objectors who made this possible.
MEANWHILE AT ARCH HILL
Persimmon’s reviled Copperfields development, on former Tregothnan Estate land, has been described by one outraged observer as a ''pus-oozing scab on Truro’s flank''.
It must truly rank as the most damning indictement yet on our Cornish planners who have allowed this travesty to be built on such a massive scale in such a prominent position, in the form it is given, that yellow bricks are not a normal feature in the Cornish landscape!
Significantly, given a series of scandals triggered initially by the obscene levels of bonuses paid to Persimmon directors, and followed up by a nationwide avalanche of complaints from horrified purchasers with regard to build quality, Persimmon shares have taken a major hit.
It would appear that in many cases, lax interpretation of building control regulations has failed to stop the obvious bodging that photographic evidence has revealed to be responsible, in many cases of complaint.
Persimmon, like others before them, have failed to recognise that their financial clout allied with their greed and arrogance, offers no protection whatsoever against public opinion, when they overstep the mark to the degree they appear to have done, according to reports circulating on social media pages like Persimmon dissatisfied customers.
We sincerely hope hope that Councillor Adam Paynter, Councillor Bob “the Builder'' Egerton, Councillor Mike Eathorne-Gibbons, Councillor Mark Kaczmarek, Mr John Betty, Mr Phil Mason, Rob Saltmarsh, Kate Kennally, the Duchy of Cornwall and Tregothnan Estate are truly proud of their leading roles in the continuing degradation of our Cornish Countryside.
We wish everyone a peaceful and happy Christmas, and a healthy fulfilling New Year, with sincere thanks and best wishes from all at Cornish Solidarity, to all our supporters.
