And another councillor adds:
“Dear All,
Personally I am very grateful to Bernard Deacon for setting out the history. I for one have spent hours of my life insisting that the infrastructure was put in place before any development commenced.
Sadly the word “infrastructure” only extends to roads, sewage and surface water run off… no real concern seems to be shown in respect of health care, schools etc...
I have attended four Pennon plc AGMs and asked questions on the subject of foul drainage and surface water run off which had to be addressed in respect of the Truro Newham Treatment works, as this has been declared over capacity since June 2017.
Last Thursday SWW submitted their plans for foul drainage but the disposal of surface water has yet to be decided.
The picture has now become immensely complicated in respect of Langarth, the Stadium, Maiden Green, Willow Green and Hendra development which are all included in the Development Brief of land North of the A390 and passed by Cabinet in 2012.
I understand that Cornwall Council are now making financial contributions to the development, but I have not yet received answers to my questions as to the extent of the “investment”!
The planning applications for the area, including the Stadium, will be coming before the SPC as and when matters have been agreed. From what I can gather, the Govt. are now going to pay for or have been asked to pay for the Northern Access Road - which means the tax payer - not the developer. What other concessions have been offered I have yet to discover?
I do not think the Stadium can be a “stand alone” development because the Park and Ride will also have to be greatly extended to provide parking for the matches.
I find it difficult to understand why CC should insist on commencing the development at the furthest point away from any existing community - none of it is “adding up”. I am to receive copies of the original S106 in respect of Langarth and the revised one.
Taking a detached view of the Stadium - I think the word is a misnomer - we have been told it is an exciting development providing everything that anyone could possibly want, i.e. a Conference Centre with a sports pitch attached, which will be used for many other activities, no doubt generating noise and light pollution on a daily basis.
I very much hope that Truro can retain its Football pitch in Treyew Road. It is well designed - it has a club house and families can walk to the matches … probably averaging 100 spectators but do not quote me as I have not checked my figures.
