Are people in Cornwall that apathetic and carefree about how their record breaking council tax increases and business rates are spent by an increasingly erratic, wasteful and gambling Cornwall Council?!!

With a staggering £2bn shortfall (including debt and pension black hole), your council officers and Cornwall councillors have just agreed to borrow an additional £600m to finance a speculative new town on the edge of beleaguered Treliske hospital, to house initially around 8,000 new residents, few if any of whom will have any links to the Duchy (and with many not potentially liable to pay any council tax), but with a new debt liability which will add to the nearly £1.5m weekly repayments the council already makes to the banks.

So if and when your kids finally leave home and actually find some affordable housing in the Duchy, be sure to explain to them why their council taxes are not only at one of the highest levels in the land, but increasing annually at the highest rate across the UK, year on year.

All so that our new leadership team at Cornwall council can follow through on their master plan delivery to the developers to add 62,000 (and climbing) new homes for the rapidly urbanised Duchy.

This team is made up of:

Kate Kennally - CEO and formerly leading Barnet council in London, which when she left was itself on the verge of bankruptcy.

John Betty - council guru and former developer from Bristol who prides himself on urbanising many other towns and cities in the UK, and whose friend, Inox developer) urgently needs the project at Chiverton to go ahead, to avoid losing a packet on his own speculative land purchase.

Phil Mason - formerly head of planning at Restormel and Cornwall council, and recently promoted to director for strategy, whose litany of errors, manipulations and failings have been well documented on this site for the past 18 months.

Please write to your local councillor and let them know your thoughts about this ludicrous and dangerous scheme.
