Dear Coppell Neighbors,
First, THANK YOU. In just a few days, more than 1,300 of us have signed the petition to stop Coppell ISD from closing Town Center Elementary (TCE). Local media has already taken notice, and our grassroots effort is growing stronger by the hour. This incredible start shows the heart of our community — but now we must keep the momentum going.
🙋 Why should YOU care (even if you don’t have kids at TCE)?
- 💰 Taxpayer money wasted – $4M spent renovating TCE this summer — now at risk of being thrown away. Pinkerton Elementary also had $1.3M in renovations before its closure.
- 🏫 Future financial mismanagement & more closures! – CISD claims financial hardship while looking at expansions/renovations elsewhere. More poor decisions — and more school closures — could impact your kids and your neighborhood next.
- 🔄 Student disruption – Kids will be shuffled between schools until 2028, then TCE will close. That’s years of unnecessary instability.
- 🚦 Missing safety & traffic assessments – No clear analysis. If you think traffic is bad now, it could get worse.
- 🏘️ Property values at risk – Closing one of Coppell’s top-performing schools will reduce home values.
- 🛑 Community loss – TCE is Coppell’s only centrally located, walkable school. Closing it erodes neighborhood identity and quality of life.
- 📊 Questionable decision metrics – Unclear criteria and possible cherry-picked data to support this proposal.
- 🏗️ Land use risks – Once closed, the land could be sold for apartments or commercial use, creating more traffic and disrupting the library next door.
