Coppell ISD: Don’t Close Town Center Elementary After $4 Million Renovation

Coppell ISD: Don’t Close Town Center Elementary After $4 Million Renovation
The Issue
This summer, Coppell ISD invested nearly $4 million renovating Town Center Elementary (TCE). Now, just months later, the district is proposing to close TCE in the name of cost savings.
This decision makes no sense — financially or for our community.
· Taxpayer money wasted: Why spend $4M renovating a school only to close it? That is poor planning and irresponsible stewardship of public funds.
· Minimal savings: Closing TCE saves $1.46M a year — less than 18% of CISD’s deficit. That small savings is not worth the damage to our community.
· Community loss: TCE is Coppell’s only centrally located, walkable school. It strengthens neighborhood identity, reduces traffic, and helps property values. Closing it would weaken the very heart of Coppell.
· Broken trust: CISD’s own planning rubric values property values, regeneration, and community identity. Renovating then closing TCE violates those principles and erodes trust.
Why should you care even if you don’t have kids in TCE?
· Closing TCE will lower Coppell property values — top schools are one of the biggest drivers of home prices.
· Once closed, the land could be sold or developed for apartments or commercial use, worsening traffic in the city center and disrupting the library next door.
· CISD’s plan will shuffle children from multiple schools into TCE temporarily until 2028, only to close it afterward — an unnecessary disruption with long-term mental and emotional health consequences for young children.
We call on Coppell ISD to:
1. Keep Town Center Elementary open and fully utilize the $4M investment already made.
2. Explore better solutions — such as boundary realignment, administrative cost savings, and program expansions — before closing any school.
3. Honor community input and protect Coppell’s long-term strength by valuing neighborhood schools.
Town Center Elementary is more than a school. It’s a community anchor, a taxpayer investment, and a reason families choose Coppell. Closing it is not fiscal responsibility — it’s a mistake that will hurt our children, our neighborhoods, and our future.
Add your name to tell CISD: Don’t waste $4M. Don’t close Town Center Elementary.
