Cooling off period to be introduced as part of rehoming Pets

Cooling off period to be introduced as part of rehoming Pets
The issue
We are first time pet owners and rehomed the puppy with verbal agreement to wait for 15 days before transferring to new family. This included pup didn’t settle, new family not comfortable and we are also settled. After handing over the pup, we realised it was mistake and we should bring our pup back. 2 days after when we tried contacting new family they refused to handover the pup and also went ahead with his transfer on same day. They threatened us and disconnected us completely. I will be fighting my battle legally as by law there is no cooling off period, but agreement is an agreement, should have been respected. I have met many parents who had to let go of their pets just because pet was transferred and legally no choice. Bringing back our pets should be our legal right !!!!!
I have heard multiple times oh it’s just a puppy buy another one…my answer to all those is No why can’t I get him back. New family has been selfish, no mercy what bond can you create in 2 days?
As a proof we have 2 signed copies with us which is proof we agreed on transfers of ownership and informing the council by ourselves when both our families and Nico is settled well. We have registered our complaint with OLG and our case number is 00045185. We have also informed both Blacktown and Southerland Shire Councils about this illegal transfer and breach of agreement.
If we win this petition, it will surely support pet owners who gets paranoid at first place but gain consciousness later. We can also save our pets from going through the whole settling process by bringing them back. What is better than coming back home !!!
As part of my petition, I request viewers to also visualise scenarios like below before deciding it doesn’t make sense:
- you rehomed your pet but later get to know, that you were not aware if your pup could go to another house and not stay where it meant to be. So you should have option to recall your decision
- after Rehoming you get to know that pup is listed on other websites for rehoming on higher price. So you should have option to reverse your decision
- after rehoming you discover one of their family member is into dog fighting, you certainly need an option to bring back your pup
- your partner transferred your pup on his name by stealing your details, you have no option to claim back etc etc so many scenarios
In nutshell settlement period should be Must say 14 days before officially transferring pet’s custody. These 14 days would give us right to visit our pup, find out his/her well being, recall decision if we have to.
Pls. help me sign this petition and help bringing this change in law and #pooinhermidst #bring_nico_back
