The Issue

  • Pickleball is experiencing explosive growth in popularity, particularly among seniors.
  • Pickleball is a low-impact sport that provides significant health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, balance, coordination, and social interaction.
  • These health benefits can help reduce healthcare costs associated with age-related conditions.
  • Existing pickleball courts in our neighborhood are in high demand and often overcrowded, leading to frustration and limited playing time for residents.

Converting Tennis Court #4 at Fraser Heights Recreation Centre to four (4) permanent pickleball courts would:

  • Meet the growing demand for pickleball facilities in our community.
  • Provide a dedicated space for seniors to enjoy this beneficial sport.
  • Promote a healthier and more active lifestyle for our residents.
  • Potentially reduce the strain on the healthcare system by improving the overall health of our community.

Therefore, we respectfully request that:

  • Tennis Court #4 at Fraser Heights Recreation Centre be converted to four (4) permanent pickleball courts.
  • The existing tennis courts (#1-#3) at Fraser Heights Recreation Centre continue to be available for tennis players.
  • Consideration be given to the high demand for pickleball in our community and the significant health benefits this sport provides to seniors.

We believe that this conversion would be a valuable asset to our community and would greatly enhance the quality of life for our residents.
