Convert Select MTA Bus Routes to Trackless Trolleys for Sustainable Transportation

The Issue

As an advocate for sustainable transportation solutions, I am deeply invested in the future of New York City's transit system. I believe that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) should convert some of their bus routes to trackless trolley routes. Trackless trolleys, also known as electric buses, are not only more environmentally friendly but also offer a smoother and quieter ride compared to traditional buses.

In New York City, where air pollution is a significant concern, converting to trackless trolleys could help reduce harmful emissions. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), electric buses can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100% per passenger mile compared to diesel buses.

Furthermore, trackless trolleys have proven their worth in numerous cities around the world. In San Francisco and Seattle, these vehicles have been successfully integrated into public transportation systems with positive results.

Unfortunately, despite these benefits and successful implementations elsewhere, New York City phased out its last trackless trolley lines in 1960. It's time we reconsider this decision and bring back this superior form of public transportation for a greener future.
